About
Hello, I'm Andrés, a master's student in Scientific Computing and Computational Mathematics at TU Berlin and KTH. I'm passionate about complex social, urban, and environmental problems, and how we can approach them through computing and mathematical modelling.
I have experience in software engineering, data analysis, machine learning, and currently broadening my knowledge in numerical methods, mathematical modelling, and high-performance computing.
I'm currently looking for full-time positions in industry or academia after graduating
in July 2025. I'm interested in the analysis and modelling of urban and/or social systems, as
well as the development of tools for processing and visualizing complex and large datasets within
such domains.
Experience
KTH Bio-Opto-Nano Physics - Hard X-ray Lab
Master's Thesis
Jan 2025 - Jun 2025
- Title: X-ray Transmission Map Reconstruction: Regularized Optimization for Inverting a Parameterized Family of Image Processing Algorithms
- Working in an initiative to build frugal X-ray detectors with camera-based sensors.
- Developing a model to revert image processing algorithms to recover X-ray transmission maps from chest x-ray datasets. The motivation is to simulate a dataset of X-ray images captured by camera-based detectors.
Zero44
Data Scientist - Work Study
Nov 2023 - Jan 2025
- Built a monitoring system on top of AWS Cloudwatch to detect data anomalies and/or errors in external data.
- Developed a framework to generate reports from SQL queries and matching a spreadsheet template.
- Designed and built the first internal pipeline for continuous deployment and experimentation of ML models for fuel consumption prediction in voyages.
- Developed a clustering algorithm to compute default values for existing ML models in cases of entities missing feature datapoints.
Arca Continental
Data Scientist
Jan 2023 - Aug 2023
- Performed large-scale data processing with Spark and worked on machine learning models to predict the sales potential of customers.
- Led the development of a system to identify daily market opportunities in 500K+ customers, and automate the orchestration of action items to address them.
- Developed a Spark based algorithm (order of 100k entities) for a one-to-one entity ‘best’ similarity matching.
Software Engineer Intern
Jun 2022 - Aug 2022
- Worked with ML Data Platform, contributing to an internal offline dataset storage service.
- Broadened the user base for a Big Data feature storage service by enabling use cases with low volumes of data. Provided an alternate (non-Spark) interface to load and commit data for pandas DataFrames.
- Designed and built a system to improve the service’s dependency tracking for stored datasets by leveraging Spark RDDs metadata to infer dependencies.
State of Mexico Tax Intelligence
Software Engineer / Data Scientist
Feb 2022 - Jun 2022
- Worked with State of Mexico’s Secretary of Finance to consolidate a trustworthy database of existing estates in the region.
- Researched methods to standardize geographical data to identify duplicate entries and support further efforts to interpolate missing addresses.
- Produced geographical and quantitative visualizations to quantify the estates per region and compare datasets of addresses.
Meta
Software Engineer Intern
Sep 2021 - Dec 2021
- Worked with the Data Experiences and Intelligence team. Extended in-house dashboards built with React and GraphQL, used by Meta employees to analyze product metrics.
- Improved visibility of holidays in metric visualization tools to assist data scientists in identifying relationships of metric trends/pikes and these dates.
Software Engineer Intern
Jun 2021 - Sep 2021
- Designed and developed a microservice (Python/Flask) to automate backup and restore operations for a new storage service to be built on top of TiDB.
- Implemented a service to trigger backup & restore operations on demand, and track the corresponding backups’ metadata.
