About
Hello, I'm Andrés, a master's student in Scientific Computing and Computational Mathematics at TU Berlin (1st year) and KTH (2nd and current year). I'm passionate about complex problems in science and engineering, and how we can exploit computing resources to solve them.
I have experience in software engineering, data analysis, machine learning, and currently broadening my knowledge in numerical methods, mathematical modelling, and high-performance computing.
I'm currently looking for thesis opportunities starting January 2025, or full-time positions
after graduating in June 2025. I'm interested in the analysis and modelling of urban and/or social
systems, as well as the development of tools for processing and visualizing complex and large datasets
within such domains.
Experience
Zero44
Data Scientist - Work Study
Nov 2023 - Ongoing
- Joined zero44, building a platform to monitor and manage carbon regulations for the shipping industry within the EU.
- Setting up a foundational pipeline to automate the training and deployment of models to predict energy consumptions in maritime voyages.
Arca Continental
Data Scientist
Jan 2023 - Aug 2023
- Joined the Advanced Analytics department in the the second largest Coca-Cola bottler in Latin America.
- Performed large-scale data processing with Spark/Scala, and worked on machine learning models to predict the sales potential of customers.
- Led the development of a system to identify daily market opportunities in 500K+ customers, and automate the orchestration of action items to address such opportunities.
Software Engineer Intern
Jun 2022 - Aug 2022
- Worked with ML Data Platform, contributing to an internal offline dataset storage service.
- Broadened the user base for a Spark-based feature storage. Built an alternate in-memory API to load and commit data for pandas DataFrames, removing the overhead tied to using Spark (for appropriate cases, e.g. low volume datasets).
- Improved dependency tracking for stored feature datasets by designing and implementing a component to infer dependencies from Spark RDDs metadata stored within the team’s internal service.
State of Mexico Tax Intelligence
Software Engineer / Data Scientist
Feb 2022 - Jun 2022
- Worked with State of Mexico’s Secretary of Finance to consolidate a trustworthy database of existing estates in the region.
- Experimented with different methods to standardize and visualize geographical data (GeoPandas) to identify duplicate entries and support further efforts to interpolate missing addresses.
- Analyzed geographical data from iterations of our efforts to highlight progress from previous iterations and identify any anomalies in the data.
Meta
Software Engineer Intern
Sep 2021 - Dec 2021
- Worked with the Data Experiences and Intelligence team. Extended in-house dashboards built with React and GraphQL, used by Meta employees to analyze product metrics.
- Improved visibility of holidays in metric visualization tools to assist data scientists in identifying relationships of metric trends/pikes and these dates.
Software Engineer Intern
Jun 2021 - Sep 2021
- Designed and developed, along with the Storage & Caching team, a microservice (Python/Flask) to automate backup and restore operations for a new storage service to be built on top of TiDB.
- Implemented a service to trigger backup & restore operations on demand, and track the corresponding backups metadata.
